Poet: Alexis Rotella

A draft horse-drawn carriage festooned with roses moves past our house, a slow rhythm

new to our suburban street. Eyes outlined in black, her face pale, gothic, the driver

stares not just at but through me, as I stand at the window for days transfixed.

a dream rises to the top of sleep

Alexis Rotella's latest collection Milkweed (haiku and senryu 1979-2024) is available from Brooks Books. She has published 41 books to date and has won two Touchstone Book Awards in recent years. One of the world's renowned writers of Japanese poetry forms in English, Alexis lives in Greensboro, North Carolina.
