Workshops & Forum

The best way to improve your writing is to gain feedback from a group of other writers in a safe environment where everyone works together to improve their skills and the quality of their work. Not many literary magazines offer this service, but we do.

One to one online workshop

Book an hour's one to one workshop session with one of our editors to discuss your piece, work through any concerns you may have on plot, characterisation, dialogue, flow etc. The editor will look at your work prior to the workshop, highlight any areas of concern and suggest appropriate edits.  Afterwards, you will receive an annotated document with editor's notes.

To arrange your session email with an outline of the work you'd like to discuss . Put 'Workshop' in the subject heading.  One of our editors will get back to you to arrange a time and date and ask you to email a copy of the piece to be workshopped - max 3,000 words.

Cost for one to one workshop session: £20

Group online workshops

Through the power of Zoom we can offer online workshop groups for up to 6 people. Work will be shared prior to the group and attendees should prepare comments for discussion. The session will be moderated by one of our editors. Attendance is on a first come first served basis . Workshop dates can be found on the Events page and will be promoted on social media.

Cost for online group workshops: Free (members only)

Writing workshops

Throughout the year we organise various writing workshops at locations in Gloucestershire.  These range from 'Just Write' days where we provide teas, coffees, the location and peace and quiet for you to concentrate on your writing, to informative, discussion workshops with well known authors.  Tickets for these events are on a first come, first served basis. Workshop dates can be found on the Events page and will be promoted on social media.

Cost for online group workshops: please see event listing.

Members are eligible to join our Forum where you can upload pieces of work  and ask for specific or general feedback from the PHARE community.  Alternatively, if you have a specific query on the craft of writing: plot, characterisation, dialogue etc, you can ask other members for assistance.

We expect everyone to treat each other as they would wish to be treated. This is a community group for writers  and any abusive or unnecessary behaviour/comments will result in exclusion.
