Insomnia

Jo Casling

Between our backs
sleep the conversations
we never had.

I'm buried beneath leaves
with lungs full of black fly
a mattress thick

with heavy greens
and swollen pink tongues.
I stretch the night cloth,

tip space into folds
of thrumming skin.
You are still.

I turn.
Gather fuel from
this vacant lot.

Jo visits her studio in Stroud every day where she paints large abstract canvases. She trained at Darlington and Sheffield and has exhibited widely in the UK. Some days she prefers to write words on her walls. These words sometimes become poems on paper.
